Resolutions & Results

I have been seeing so many people work themselves up on the topic of new year resolutions. They take pains to write them down and then follow them religiously towards a fruitful end. The resolutions range from getting up in the morning to making it big on their professional front. Going on trips to exotic destinations to using the most sophisticated cameras like the Canon 7D. I agree we all want to excel in our chosen fields and become as perfect as we can be but have you ever thought why not do the reverse of it all and fail in everything or fall down the ladder of perfection?

Surprisingly we all fail in almost everything in life but we do not plan for failures as an objective in life.
When we think about it, we will realize that when we resolved to go to the best school in life and got the second best we accepted it saying that it is still better than the one you had considered before. Now compromise is also a part of our life so we accept all and sundry and then give enough reasons for accepting the mundane.
So when we plan for the new year we hope to excel and beat all odds but when we actually get down to results we come up with a plausible story for showing some other achievement.
Krsna never said that you shouldn't plan. Even when the war was going on in Kurukshetra He told the Pandavas to plan for the days well in advance.
The catch here is not to bother about the fruits of the efforts since they are anyway never going to be in our hands.
The results are always in the divine hands so we cannot say that this is what I will get or achieve. let us leave the results to the great Lord but let us plan for the next year.
Whatever He wants to give is His choice and never is ours! But we can aim for success in whatever enterprise we choose.
So when you plan this year just focus on what you are going to do as an action plan but please do not focus on results.
To put in efforts and perform the duties is within our purview but to focus on the results are dangerous. Since anyway results are never in our hands.
Here let me clarify why He says so.
If we focus on results and drive towards getting them then we fall into a karmic loop which can never be broken but we will have to work it out in one of our births.
Let me give you an example. If you want to put your kid in the best of schools which is your resolution for this year, then you will go out of the way to pay a tidy sum as donation and get the seat for him/her. Even if she or he is not eligible for it. Now you are actually stepping on someone else's admission for which you will have to pay somewhere down the line. You will have to loose sometime and be in the same position like that deserving one this year. Now will that be acceptable by you then?
Remember the law of karma states that you have to give what you take.
So if you murder someone he has to murder you or if you sodomize a child today, he will do the same in the future life of yours too. That is a very sorry state for anyone.
So why bother about results at all since we are driven by destiny and what is due to us is what we will get. So just focus on getting job done to the best of our ability and focus more on action and good deeds.
So go ahead and make your resolutions wherein you will focus more on acts rather than results.
