Is it Love or Attachment?
9:59:00 PMKrishna RaoI was telling a story of Vidur's wife,Parshavi who was alone at home when Krishna comes to visit Vidur. He calls out from the door and Parshavi who is having bath comes to the door, running naked to receive Krishna. Krishna asks her to cover herself up. Later she sits peeling bananas and feeding the peels instead of the fruit. Vidur returns and sees Parshavi feeding the banana skin to the Lord and shouts at her. Krishna stops him and tells him that her love for Krishna made her so lost in Him that what she fed was the most delicious of all offerings.
Now this love is far beyond the ken and understanding of any human kind of love.
My disciple asked me if that can be compared to a mothers love for her child, citing her own example when her mother ran in the middle of the night being fearful for the child's health in whatever she was wearing least caring for her own self. I told her the story of another mother who climbed the entire steep wall of Kondana fort when the gates had closed for the evening. She had to feed her baby which made her climb the mountain. Shivaji later felicitated her for her bravery and showing her love for her child.
The question asked by my disciple was valid-can the two Love's be compared?
The two love are of different kinds. One is motivated and very personal kind which is full of desires and wants. The mothers love is very much full of attachment and desires for the child. Will she show the same compassion for any other persons child? Will her love compare be the same for every other person in her life? Not at all. She cares for her child and is focused in her undertaking. Such a person can never get to God since she has too much of attachments for her kith and kin.
The first rule of becoming spiritual is to be detached from the worldly desires and wants. I am sure you may remember the story of Bharata who had put all his desires in the deer and becomes a deer when he dies. So this mothers desires and attachments will put her back into the worldly loop and make her take rebirth again and again.
The one thing that we need to do when we pray to Krishna is to have true love and exclusive devotion for Him alone. Then you can get to Him.
The desire to be in love with God alone can take us to Him alone. So just focus all your energies onto the Lord and be with Him after you leave this life.
Detachment from worldly desires and wants and only having exclusive devotion to the Lord will take you to Him.
