Jai Ho! Chalta Hai!

Sometimes we are very critical of our own country and countrymen. Criticizing them for the problems that we face in doing small jobs or the red tape involved in getting some job done.

Our country is the best place to live in the whole world and we should be proud of this at all times.
When we go to pay the electricity bills or get a ration card from the department we face numerous obstacles which has made us very resilient and tough in our undertakings with every other person.
Just think, is there any place in the whole wide world where a poor man can eat a decent meal for less than Rs.10/-? In India we can live on the streets and yet have a decent meal. A cup of tea can range from a khullar type to a fancy crockery style one also, costing anywhere between Rs.3 to Rs.200/- as well. The streets of Kolkatta are lined with beautiful small eateries which serve even the poorest of the poor to the richest of the rich. I remember eating at Nariman Point in South Mumbai from the chinese thelas to paobhaji to vadapao as well. I remember Pancham Puri opposite the erstwhile V.T. station(CST now). Sitting there amidst the office goers to the street urchins also, having one of the tastiest Puri Bhaji off all times.
Take the case of Hyderabad where I could eat infront of the Charminar having a small cup of tea and having khari at a price no one can afford otherwise!
Our methods are very ancient and outdated, yet we survive. Take the case of a Foreign Bank where everything happens at a great speed or any Indian bank where all things are slow and happen with a little prodding and a queue which may last for an hour or two. Yet our work gets done there with a smile and a frown too. Sometimes with a gaali or a push and shove. We can stand in a train for two to three hours and yet get to work from Virar or Nerul and face the toughest test at workplace. And hey, if you think that talking to the phone-banker is great, then you are mistaken since they have absolutely no idea what the right hand is doing from left. They are mere machines who can take your crap whereas try dishing out that crap to our toughened bank cashiers! They will give you back tooth for tooth! You better get used to this they will say, otherwise get lost to some fancy outlet! We are survivors in the toughest of the environments!
Now consider any other country where you might have been.
I remember someone telling me that in one highly advanced South Asian country a drunk was lying on the road and they called everyone from police to paramedics and could do nothing about him for hours till he got up and left on his own. They just kept on calling out-"sir, will you please get up and leave!" How strange? In India we would take the guy home or give him slaps and get him back to senses in no time! Or pour maybe a bucket of water on his head. But abroad thats a no-no! We serve water with our food and elsewhere we need to pay through our nose for such an abundant commodity! The water bottling companies are today innovating due to such silly people who want "pure drinking water"!
I had taken a germ count once in my life from various places and sent it for examination to a research lab and funnily I found that potable water at the most expensive places was the most contaminated one! We can survive the worst circumstances and bounce back on our feet sooner enough since we have become tough in our life facing situations from schools to work places to crematoriums! So let us thank our stars for being born in such a durable, long lasting and the toughest countries in the whole world. We all deserve an applause instead of criticisms and let those who feel out of place go back to where they came from the highly advanced nations that they think exist. Let them understand we can face apartheid or any other problem like no other.
We have Mahatma Gandhi's to the crookedest of people amongst us so we can face anything- be it war to Bhopals to Dharavi's to whatever! We can eat anything, live like kings to bhikaris to enjoy the sumptuous of the meals also. We all live and love our Chalta Hai attitude and yet we can fight tooth and nail for the corrupt or against them also!
Jai Ho! Bharat is truly great!

  1. Interesting perspective, but though I love India, I would not say that all the inconveniences that we might face there are positive. It is not out of choice that we become tough really. Sometimes its just compulsion and we really ought to get certain things we should be getting without the fight.
