Why Follow The Herd?

What makes you think that you need not question the beliefs and rituals today?
Is it the birthright of those few people who think that they can control or direct the hoards towards their ancient ways of thinking?
When we enter the portal of any temple we do what all the previous people before us who have entered do like a yoked bull, without knowing why we are doing that!
So is it necessary to know why we bow down or put flowers or pour water or give abhishekam or some such activity? You ask for full details when you have to open a bank account or putting your child in school or for that matter we go through complete rigmarole before we opt for the bride or groom! You better know the details about your spouse to be, right? Suppose they suffer from some debilitating disease would you marry that person? Or if there are cases of dementia would you allow your daughter to marry there?
So knowing about somethings like these material stuff is far more important and following your dad or mom in believing about some God or stuff has little value? You should know that it is very important to know whom you are bowing down to or your own kids tomorrow will become atheist just because you are not able to explain to them about your God!
So try to find out more about the holy places that you visit and why should you worship or give money to that divinity or do some ritualistic stuff there!
You gotta know false beliefs can make us bigger donkeys and our children revolt from our beliefs. We should be able to explain them the correct view about the divinity we worship so first get to know why and who this One is.
There are various books and explanations about the places you visit.
Just for knowledge you should know how the Kali came into being at Dakshineshwar. Who is this great person called Ramakrishna Paramhamsa and why do we need to bow down to Him or the Goddess there. The books explaining this stuff are available there aplenlty. So go read some stuff and not follow blindly. Those who go to Shirdi to visit the Saibaba shrine should know the importance of the divinity there. So you may read books like the Sai Satcharitra first. Know about the samadhi, the Gurusthan, the Lendi baug and so on. When you visit take your prasad at the Khanaval there.
I guess you have by now understood why you should know about these places, understand the reason to bow down to the divinity there and so on.
So before you step into the presence of the great sages or temples know about them. do not blindly follow just because someone else did that or your forefathers did.
Go prepared for any visits with full knowledge. Try Google first, then someone who can tell you more from your friend circle or family. So tomorrow you will be able to give a correct picture to your kids and they will be able to fully devote themselves to that divine.
